LAMP, an open source web platform, refers to a set of tools: Linux, Apache, MySQL and
PHP (Perl or Python). It enables rapid development and deployment of enterprise scale
applications. The tools have following functions: MySQL deals with data storage whereas
PHP (Perl or Python) deals with business logic of the application. Linux provides
robust server environment whereas Apache, the webserver, delivers the content. The
advantages of LAMP are as follows:
| |
Building applications in LAMP leads to Low Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) as all sets of tools are open source. |
The component set of tools have faster improvement chances as they are all open source. |
This platform is easy to use and reliable, and also provides greater flexibility. |
There is no fear of vendor lock-in (and hence platform lock-in) as in case with commercial software. |
Being an open source platform, LAMP offers dual license option (free and non-free). Hence, by buying the license fee, companies are allowed not to make source code available. |

MarvelServices has a team of experts who can efficiently work with these open source tools
to build various types of web applications. Our experience and expertise
enables us to judiciously decide which applications are not well suited for
LAMP (e.g. applications that require frequent exchange of large amount of transient data)
and hence suggest some other platform that will be best suited for that application.
Some of our services are as follows:
| |
Building various types of web applications |
Migration and porting of applications build in proprietary architecture to LAMP |
